Higher education in Canada matters. Recent and current provincial reviews of post-secondary education from coast-to-coast have highlighted the consequences of governments focusing primarily on the economic benefits of higher education, and on institutions focusing their attention on commercialization and research agendas.

These factors and others have contributed to a systemic problem - a lack of attention to learning outcomes, to learners and to the learning experience. Province by province, each review has targeted the pressing need for knowledge on the wide range of experiences of post-secondary learners and for resources for educational leaders to use to demonstrate their accountability for learning outcomes and learner experiences.

Launched in October, 2006, the Canadian Centre for the Study of Higher Education (CCSHE) is the hub and catalyst for

  • developing and sustaining a network of graduate students, educators and national and international partners who share a commitment to both creating and communicating information about learners and their experiences of higher education
  • creating and connecting available resources and educational opportunities for graduate students and educational leaders on Canadian best practices with respect to the students and their learning experiences.
  • developing mutually-beneficial networks for collaborative education and research among Canadian Higher Education graduate programs and potentially, international graduate programs.
