Continuing Professional Development

In the 2008/2009 academic year the Graduate Division of Educational Research will not offer Continuing Professional Development (CPD) quarter courses. Students who require a quarter course credit in order to finish their program must contact their Graduate Program Administrator in the GDER office or Dr. Ann Sherman, Acting Associate Dean in GDER.

The Graduate Division of Educational Research (GDER) offers quarter-courses as part of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) distance delivery initiative.

These quarter-courses are offered online (web-based); face-to-face, off campus; or in a combination of these formats.

CPD courses are offered to meet the needs of:

teachers or administrators wanting personal professional development

those wanting to return to teaching after a prolonged absence

teachers wanting to move up the salary grid

teachers moving to new grades or subject areas

new curriculum mandated by Alberta Education

open-studies students wanting to explore the possibility of graduate studies

in-program graduate students

How can CPD graduate quarter-courses be used in graduate programs?

CPD courses may be used for credit in the Graduate Certificate, the Graduate Diploma programs or the Master of Education degree. Courses are selected by the student, subject to the approval of the Academic Specialization Coordinator and/or the Associate Dean.

What is Post-Degree Continuous Learning (PDCL)?

A student may apply for direct entry or “ladder" up with course and fee credit.

CPD courses may be used at each level.

How much do CPD courses cost?

Fees are comparable to other online courses and programs, i.e., $557.50 Cdn per quarter-course plus some University of Calgary General Fees (fees subject to change).
